Here’s What Obama Said When He Signed The Iran Nuclear Agreement Sunday

President Barack Obama officially signed the controversial nuclear agreement with Iran Sunday afternoon after Iran’s parliament passed the measure last week.

The agreement will offer relief from crippling economic sanctions on Iran if that country complies with numerous provisions designed to stop the country from developing nuclear weapons.

Much has been written about this issue. But here at Rise News, we believe in sometimes cutting through the confusion and just bringing you straight information from world leaders.

Here is what President Obama said about the agreement in a statement after signing it on “adoption day.”

“Today marks an important milestone toward preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and ensuring its nuclear program is exclusively peaceful going forward. On this Adoption Day of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached between the P5+1, EU, and Iran, JCPOA participants will make necessary arrangements and preparations for the implementation of their JCPOA commitments. Today, Iran begins to take the steps necessary to implement its JCPOA commitments, including removing thousands of centrifuges and associated infrastructure, reducing its enriched uranium stockpile from approximately 12,000 kilograms to 300 kilograms, and removing the core of the Arak heavy-water reactor and filling it with concrete so that it cannot be used again, among other steps. These next steps will allow us to reach the objectives we set out to achieve over the course of nearly two years of tough, principled diplomacy and will result in cutting off all four pathways Iran could use to develop enough fissile material for a nuclear weapon. I am confident in the extraordinary benefits to our national security and the peace and security of the world that come with the successful implementation of the JCPOA.

I have directed that the heads of all relevant executive departments and agencies of the United States begin preparations to implement the U.S. commitments in the JCPOA, in accordance with U.S. law, including providing relief from nuclear-related sanctions as detailed in the text of the JCPOA once the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has verified that Iran has completed all of its nuclear steps. We will also be closely monitoring Iran’s adherence to its commitments, working closely with the IAEA and the other JCPOA participants, to ensure Iran fully fulfills each and every one of its commitments.

I welcome this important step forward, and we, together with our partners, must now focus on the critical work of fully implementing this comprehensive resolution that addresses our concerns over Iran’s nuclear program.”

Man Goes Berzerk On Irish Plane Flight, Bites Fellow Passenger And Then Dies

In a terrible scene that some have likened to a Zombie horror flick, a man in Ireland is dead after becoming extremely agitated on a flight, biting a fellow passenger before dying shortly afterwards.

The “horror” as described by the Irish Mirror occurred on a flight from Lisbon, Portugal to Dublin around 5 PM local time.

Aer Lingus flight EI485 was forced to make an emergency landing in Cork after the pilot declared a “medical emergency” on the flight according to the Guardian.

According to multiple media reports, a 24 year old man (who is not thought to have been an Irish citizen) became very angry on the flight and started biting another passenger before being restrained. Of the 170 passengers on board, there was at least one doctor who attempted to provide some medical assistance to the man.

From the Irish Mirror:

“It is understood the man later became unwell after being restrained and fell into a state of unconsciousness, before being pronounced dead on the Dublin-bound flight.”

The story was first reported by RTE.

This Hilarious Video Makes A Pretty Important Point About Voting

Hey Americans, here’s something that we can be happy be about. It turns out that we aren’t the only wealthy democracy that has a hard time getting young people to show up to the polls and vote.

In Canada, youth rights activists are trying to drum up excitement for the next general election, which takes place on October 19.

At stake is the future of the country, as the Conservative Party hopes to maintain their 10 year lock on power.

During the last general election in 2011, less than 39 percent of young people aged 18 to 24 voted. At the same time however, 75 percent of people aged 65 to 74 voted in the race.

The group VoteSavvy thinks those numbers are all wrong and set out to dramatically increase youth turnout for the 2015 election.

They released this funny video explaining why young people shouldn’t let their parents make all important decisions in their lives, including in the dating and political spheres.

Miami Police Officers Kill 15 Year Old Boy After He Allegedly Robs A Drugstore

Miami-Dade county police officers shot and killed a 15 year old boy early Thursday morning after he allegedly robbed an area drugstore at gunpoint.

The boy, who police identified as Jorge Santiago Tapia was recorded on surveillance cameras holding up a gun to a cashier at a Walgreens located at SW 288th Street and South Dixie Highway. Wearing dark glasses and a bandanna around his mouth, the suspect who police say is Tapia quickly fled the scene.

CBS Miami has a rundown of what took place after Tapia allegedly fled the scene:

“Arriving officers spotted a car that matched the description of a vehicle that the armed man drove off in.

After a brief pursuit, Zabaleta said Santiago’s car got a flat tire and came to a stop. Shots were fired.”

The boy had recently celebrated his 15th birthday and was in the 8th grade at Coconut Palm Academy according to a local television report.

“There should be justice for what they did to him,” Angelica Santiago, the suspect’s sister told CBS Miami.  “The cops should have waited to see who was the suspect, not just say he was a grown man, who was going to kill them.”

Seven police officers shot Tapia.

“Not only did he use the gun to commit the armed robbery, of course, we have to assume he is going to use the gun against the officers as well,” Detective Alvaro Zabaleta told Local 10 News.

Unholy Toledo: GOP Candidate For Mayor Starts Speaking In Tongues At Local Radio Station

Tonight we bring onto you one of the best videos we could find on the Internet right now.

Ye will soon thank us for this glorious bounty.

But first, let’s set the stage.

Opal Covey is a 75-year-old Toledo resident who has become a fixture in the northwestern Ohio community. (Opal Covey also sounds like a law firm that specializes in a sad sort of construction law.)

Oh course she’s a fixture because she is constantly talking about why she believes that God told her that she will be mayor one day.

Yep.

“In 2000, the Lord spoke to me and said, ‘you’re going to be mayor’,” Covey told NBC 24. “So, I know I have to keep on running until that happens.”

Covey has run for mayor of the city four times before, but has never garnered more than 400 votes.

In her 2015 campaign, Covey decided to stop by local radio station, 1370 WSPD. After an interview, host Fred LeFebvre and Covey had quite the conversation in a hallway at the station. Luckily for us all, it was recorded.

Things start to go downhill around the 1:00 mark of the video after LeFebvre calls Covey a “false prophet” for not winning elect before.

We’d hate to spoil the rest.

Shooting Near Syracuse University Kills At Least One Person, Campus No Longer Locked Down

By Aaron Sortal

UPDATED at 12:45 AM, October 15 with student reaction

SYRAC– USE, NY-Syracuse University was locked down for an extended period earlier this evening after a shooting took place near the campus. The University is no longer under the lock down as local authorities scramble to get a handle on the full extent of the situation.

At 8:29 PM, Syracuse University students received an email, followed by a phone call, from the Department of Public Safety to say indoors and not let anyone into their homes or dorms. What caused the closings was a homicide on Hope Avenue, a street close to the University campus.

A shooter was then thought to go into Oakwood Cemetery, at which point the University was put on lock down.

One person was killed and at least one other wondered in the shooting.

According to Alexa Torrens’s story in the Daily Orange:

“At about 9 p.m., a Syracuse police officer said it is believed at least one person is armed near Oakwood Cemetery, though the officers on the scene are unsure how many people total are in the area.”

Oakwood Cemetery is located directly behind Syracuse University with ESF, Day and Flint Halls closest to the scene.

The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), located on Syracuse’s campus went into lockdown.

Students in Flint Hall were told to “turn their lights off”, according to the Daily Orange.

Other buildings were then encouraged to go into lockdown.

At 10:37 PM, students received an email from Department of Safety to “Be advised the emergency no longer exists and it is clear to resume normal activity. Continue to be diligent and report any suspicious activity.”

Currently it is unclear if the suspects involved were Syracuse students or had any connection to the university’s community.

Students Recount Confusion As Campus Became Aware Of Shooting

At 8:30 PM, Ellen Greene, an undeclared freshman from Massena, NY, was working the desk at Manley Field House, an athletic center near Oakwood Cemetery. It was there that she received the news that the campus was on high-alert.

Greene first didn’t think anything of it until her boss came over and moved her to an area with the rest of the students.  “They seemed prepared for the situation,” Greene said of the reaction, which made her feel safe.

Watch: Video From Inside The  S.I. Newhouse School of Communication During Lockdown

Across campus, there was miscommunication about what was happening.

Gabriela Robles, a freshman Public Relations major from Queens, New York, was locked in a classroom inside the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

The Syracuse Department of Public Safety (DPS) never called an official campus-wide lockdown, but they placed certain buildings on specific lockdown, for example, Flint Hall and Day Hall located closest to the scene were locked down.

Newhouse was far from the situation, but students inside experienced the miscommunication.

Robles said that Newhouse was “locked in”, meaning that no one could get in but they could leave. Students were then moved to a large space- the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium, with the rest of the people in the building.

Robles said that students were told they were encouraged to stay in certain areas, but were also told they could leave.

“No one knew what to do,” Robles said. “So they just stayed put.”

The humorous photo was posted on Facebook by Kristen Knight during the early morning hours of July 4th. Since then it has been shared nearly 200 times and has close to two thousand Facebook “likes”.

The map seems to have been inspired by the website JudgmentalMaps.com, which makes fun of cities by posting photoshopped area maps with stereotypical descriptions of neighborhoods.

Tell us in the comments below where you live according to this map and whether it is on to something.

This Hilarious Video Imagines What A Pope Francis Trip To Miami Would Look Like

We know that a bunch of people in South Florida were bummed out when Pope Francis didn’t stop over during his whirlwind American trip.

I mean, the pontiff did go to Cuba, a Miami trip would have made total sense.

But no worries, because a few Miami guys decided to imagine what a Pope Francis trip to the 305 would actually look like.

And after watching this hilarious video, you can probably see why the Holy See didn’t want Frank anywhere near Miami.

Larry Wilmore Had The Best Reaction To Jeb Bush’s Controversial Comments About Black Voters

Jeb Bush stepped in it last week on the campaign trail when he made a controversial statement that seemed to indicate that Democrats appeal to African-American voters because of “free stuff.”

“Our message is one of hope and aspiration,” he was quoted as saying by the Washington Post at a South Carolina GOP event . “It isn’t one of division and get in line and we’ll take care of you with free stuff. Our message is one that is uplifting- that says you can achieve earned success.”

Well Larry Wilmore, the host of the Nightly Show took offense to Bush’s comments. At the start of his show on Monday, Wilmore tore into the former Florida governor with a not so subtle attack. His staff helpfully tweeted it out:
