Rich Robinson– CEO, Publisher and Editor-In-Chief
Rich is the founder of RISE NEWS. He is a native of Miami and a graduate of The University of Alabama. While in college, Rich created a university sanctioned media startup that included a daily radio news show (Capstone News Now) on the campus station. He also has extensive experience in politics, having worked on his first campaign when he was 17 years old. Before starting RISE NEWS in 2015, Rich was named as one of the best college radio journalists in America by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. In college, he interned with The Miami New Times, Democratic National Committee and Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office.
Chris Beacham– Director of Video And Visual
Chris is the creative mind behind much of our video and connected multimedia output. He is a native of Hammond, LA and graduated from The University of Alabama. He lives in Los Angeles where he completed an internship with TalentWorks and is now developing scripts for film. Chris was a student leader at Alabama and helped develop Capstone News Now into a local media player.
Jordan Cissell– Editor-At-Large
Jordan helps formulate editorial decisions and produces investigative reports for us. He is a native of Gurley, AL and is pursuing a Masters Degree in Geography at The University of Alabama. His thesis will be on remote sensing and conservation. He was previously named as one of the best college feature writers by the Southeast Journalism Conference. Video reporting of his was used in the Academy Award nominated documentary 13th.
Gus King– Director of Digital Innovation
Gus helps develop new strategies to reach our audience in creative ways. He is a native of Hollywood, FL and a graduate of Kent State University. He now lives in Cleveland where he is an associate at Grant Thornton. Gus helped launch Rise Miami News, a hyper local forerunner to RISE NEWS and he provides advice on business related matters.
Eliza Sheffield– Director of Internal Development And Culture
Eliza formulates strategies to create a productive and fun experience for our writers and creative contributors. She is a native of High Point, NC and a graduate of The University of Alabama. She now works as the public relations coordinator for Druid City Garden Project and is an AmeriCorps member.

Melissa Godin is a Rhodes-Scholar elect from the Vancouver mountains in Canada. She focuses on issues of social justice and has investigated stories in Cambodia, Paris, New York, and Guatemala. Currently residing in Greenwich Village, Melissa runs a podcast called Not a Saviour that discusses volunteer tourism and the complexities of being a change maker in an increasingly complex world. She will begin her studies at Oxford in the fall.
CarlHenry Isidore was born and raised in Haiti. He is currently at CUNY York College studying Social Work. His goal is to go back to Haiti to build schools for the less fortunate children.
Hannah Bercovici was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and raised in New Haven, Connecticut. Her opinions cover many topics, including STEM education and research, environmental issues, and human rights. Her preferred form of communication is poetry, but she can also write in full sentences. She is currently a geology student at Colgate University and acts as the positive sexuality liaison for the student government. She plans on going to graduate school next year in planetary science.
My Nguyen is a Vietnamese student who is pursuing higher education in the United States at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York . She is currently majoring in Business Administration and Management. Her motto in life is the famous Aristotle quote: “Happiness is the meaning and purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence”.
Noah Johnston is currently a student at the University of Baltimore studying government and public policy. He plans to go to law school and run for political office. He also writes poetry.
Emily Neville is a first-year Park Scholar at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. She is currently pursuing a degree in Political Science while serving on Student Senate and writing for The Technician, NC State’s student newspaper. Emily has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award for creating the Leadership Harnett Youth Academy, an organization dedicated to expanding opportunities for rising leaders in Harnett County.
Jarvis Steele is a Georgia Southern University honor student coming from North Carolina majoring in Political Science and Philosophy. No stranger to media or politics, Jarvis is the founder of the radio show and podcast Modern Political Debate; a program that hopes to spread awareness on political issues as well as the state of the university by regularly speaking with professors and getting the student voice on issues. Other than politics, he enjoys soccer, playstation and all things radio.
Zhe Huang is a transfer student from China who just arrived the States for half of year. Majoring in hospitality management Working as a peer mentor at the career office in hospitality school Actively involved with international students and activities to help them adapt to the new environment.
Conor McGrath is a graduate student at the George Washington University studying Public Administration. He currently works at a public affairs consulting firm and has interned with several political campaigns while an undergrad. In addition to his role at RISE NEWS, he is also the Executive Editor of Brief Policy Perspectives, a student-run policy blog, and is a contributor to the media criticism new site Media File. He’s a fan of cats, craft beer, and cold weather.
Analis Bailey is a creative and eclectic Broadcast Journalism student at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Passionate about photography, music, fashion, food, and fun, Analis loves to stay up to date on all things media and culture, while dabbling in a little bit of everything USC has to offer. Analis is currently serving the student population, as a senator in student government and also spends her time as an anchor and reporter for the university’s sports and news television stations.
Jimena Pacheli is anything but a stereotype. She’s a Mexican but has a British accent. An avid reader, history enthusiast, and tea drinker, Pacheco lives in Mexico City where she is finishing up her studies. She also studied at The University of Scranton in Pennsylvania where she was a student leader on campus.
Annalia Mefford is a nursing student who has a passion for kids, coffee, and makeup. She loves meeting new people and exploring this thing we call life. Her current goal is to not kill her cactus named Pricks.
Sam Yu is a senior at the College of William & Mary. On campus, he is involved in groups and organizations that center on queer and trans issues, reproductive justice, and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault. Some of his favorite topics of conversation include the intersection of race and sexuality/gender, horror movies, and the sociological significance of reality television.
Marshall T. Glaze is a young, creatively spunky writer out of Baltimore, Maryland. He’s been published in Skelter, The University of Baltimore’s literary magazine. He is a jack of all trades as he is talented in areas more than one. Marshall is well versed in the realms of fiction, poetry, theater, radio, and the culinary arts.
