A video posted online by the conservative Campus Reform organization shows student supporters of the #BlackLivesMatter movement storming into a Dartmouth College library and disrupting students studying as a form of protest.
The event was organized by the campus chapter of the NAACP after a week of tensions on the campus after a pro #BlackLivesMatter display case was vandalized in the aftermath of mass protests on the University of Missouri.
The video shows a student protest that took place last Thursday and allegedly turned ugly with some claiming that the protestors used racist language to attack white students in the library who did not show visible support for the movement. “Fuck you, you filthy white fucks!,” one protestor allegedly said, although it was not recorded on the video.
The mainstream student newspaper at Dartmouth looked into the claims of racially charged language used by the protestors and could not confirm the rumors.
From The Dartmouth:
“None of the police officers who monitored the demonstration on Thursday night witnessed any acts of violence, Hanover Police Lieutenant Brad Sargent said. As of Monday, only one incident of violence in the library has been reported, and this was by a third party, Sargent said.”
Despite this, a student who claims he was part of the demonstration wrote a piece for the Tab that claims that he witnessed a protestor make a student cry and then said, “fuck your white tears.”
As you can see, there were a whole lot bunch of “claims” in that previous sentence. And some are taking the “claims” with a big ole grain of salt.

There has been a lot of controversy as to whether or not veganism is safe if the mother is breastfeeding her child, and the Internet sure does a great job of scaring moms into believing that they could hurt their child with their dietary preferences.
But this is a misconception.
A recent trending story described a mother whose infant had died at 11 months old.
The allegation was that the mother had deprived the baby of nutrients because she was breastfeeding while maintaining a vegan diet.
The story caused an outburst of fear and anger among the breastfeeding community all across the Internet and raised questions as to whether or not this diet was acceptable while feeding your child with your own milk.
The story has not only caused outrage towards vegan breastfeeding mothers, it has also called into question whether veganism is acceptable for children in general.
A different story argued that a 12-year-old girl was diagnosed with a degenerative bone disorder due to her veganism.
This story induced a growing opinion that dictates that vegan diets fail to provide adequate vitamins and nutrients.
However, the Mayo Clinic, among others have explained that while a vegan diet limits the foods rich in protein, it does not expel them.
While it may be more challenging to find the right foods to eat, it is not impossible, and many vegans are successfully healthy individuals.
Being vegan does not mean that your child will be nutrient deficient as long as you maintain a healthy diet.
It is the same as any breastfeeding mother’s mantra, if you only eat potato chips and fatty pork loin, you and your child will not receive the right amount of vitamins and nutrients. It is about balance and knowing what foods are healthy; it is not about eating meat.
I spoke with a vegan mother on the topic: she is well educated about veganism and the nutritional value of the foods she eats.
She recently had a baby who prefers his bottle to breastfeeding.
She explained that many babies prefer a bottle because it is much easier for drinking.
Though she may pump regularly, many women still need to use formula to ensure that their infant has enough milk around the clock.
As a vegan, this can be a difficult situation.
There are a few organizations in which women share or donate their breast milk to mothers who are unable to provide enough for their child.
Though it is well regulated, there are always risks with using a stranger’s milk.
If this is not an appealing option, there are many cows’ milk formulas that mothers can use.
However, if you are vegan, it can be challenging to decide whether or not this is an acceptable option.
And if you decide to take advantage of this alternative, it is likely to be ridiculed by other vegans.
So vegan mothers are truly between a rock and a hard place. Breastfeeding has become taboo in our society.
People are offended if a women breastfeeds her child in public, and others are offended if a woman decides not to breastfeed at all.
This communal reprimanding disrupts the personal decisions of a mother and allows others to dictate how a woman should care for her child.
A vegan mother is not depriving her child of nutrients as long as she is healthy, just like any other good mom.
The problem is not veganism as a dietary preference, but rather the amount of information accessible to people for the diet to be healthy.
As society has progressed, information about nutrition has improved and expanded. However, because veganism is a fairly new growing diet in this country, there is less information about nutrition.
A community has flourished online to give people information about the right foods to eat in order to properly support this lifestyle, but overall, this country is seriously lacking in its support for veganism as a whole.
Instead of progressing towards a whole and well-rounded model of vegan nutrition, people have deemed it insufficient and dangerous.
But we aren’t talking about some fleeting cultural fad, we are talking about a dietary life choice, and it should not be negated.
Breastfeeding your child is a personal matter, and the only thing that matters is that your child is well nourished and healthy.
Whether you do it in public, privately, with the nutrients from meat, or something else, the only thing that should matter is that your child is taken care of.
Veganism, just like any other diet with or without restrictions, is safe as long as the individual is well educated and eats in a healthy and nutritional manner.
Instead of reprimanding this quality of our culture, veganism should be studied and vegans should be supported in a way that helps them live healthily.
If society is going to continue to tell women how to eat and feed their babies, they mind as well be educated enough to give intelligent directions.

This Photo Of 8 Year Old Jada Page’s Mom Lying On Her Grave Should Wake Us All Up About Gun Violence
Jada Page was a typical happy-go-lucky eight year old living life in Miami.
But in late August, she was gunned down in her front yard.
Her father was also shot in the incident and the perpetrators are still on the loose, with little information for the police to go on.
It was a massive local news story in South Florida but her death has since faded into the background.
But this photo might change things a bit.
The heartbreaking photo shows Jada’s mother, Dominique Brown lying on her daughter’s grave in a near fetal position. The agony on her face only blocked due to the angle.
The photo was posted on Facebook this morning by anti-gun violence activist Tangela Sears.
“Amazing how our Community is quick to switch the subject after a Police shooting in another State,” Sears said in the Facebook post. “I live in Miami and our kids are not being killed by the police, but we seem to be outraged by police shootings.”
Jada’s killers are still on the loose.
She was murdered.
She was eight.
What is this community going to do about it?

Remember When Richard Shelby Was A Democrat And Voted Against Reagan’s Pro-Life Supreme Court Nominee?
Politics is a funny thing.
And it only gets funnier when you have broaden your scope and look at it with a wide historical context.
Alabama’s senior Senator Richard Shelby is not a big fan of President Barack Obama. No big shock there. His voting record was recently ranked as the third most conservative in the whole of the Senate.
As a consequence, Shelby has vowed to “adamantly oppose” any Supreme Court nominee that Obama offers up to the Senate for confirmation to replace Conservative icon Antonin Scalia.
“This great loss brings on a great responsibility for the United States Senate,” Shelby said in a press release on the matter. “Justice Scalia’s replacement should be considered carefully and thoughtfully because it is vital to our nation’s future that we confirm a justice who will continue his legacy.”
But Shelby has not always followed his own advice.
Back in 1987, Shelby was a vocal opponent of Judge Robert Bork‘s nomination to the Supreme Court.
Bork was a favorite of President Ronald Reagan and was seen as a conservative firebrand who would help keep the court firmly leaning to the right.
But at the time Shelby was a Democrat (and would be until he ditched the Dems for the GOP in 1994) and had little patience for Bork, a man who could have helped Scalia take the court in an even more Originalist direction.
“Overall, he [Bork] will have a divisive influence in this country, he will polarize this country and I think that’s not good for my state or the nation,” Shelby said in a C-SPAN call in show in October of 1987. “That’s why I’m going to vote against him.”
Then Sen. Ted Kennedy was a leading opponent of Bork, and he famously argued against the jurist in a way that made him sound like a right-wing nut. Kennedy gave a well-remembered invective against Bork on the floor of the Senate after Reagan announced his nomination:
“Robert Bork’s America is a land in which women would be forced into back-alley abortions, blacks would sit at segregated lunch counters, rogue police could break down citizens’ doors in midnight raids, schoolchildren could not be taught about evolution, writers and artists could be censored at the whim of the Government, and the doors of the Federal courts would be shut on the fingers of millions of citizens.”
Bork’s nomination was eventually defeated in the Senate 42 votes to 58.
“It’s all politics,” Shelby said on C-SPAN in 1987. “People say that nomination to the Supreme Court is apolitical. It’s not apolitical. It is part of the political process. It always has been, always will be.”
While some things change, other things stay the same.
