Report: Trump Will Overturn Obama Cuba Thaw Reforms

A report in the Daily Caller indicates that President Donald Trump is planning a major repeal of Obama era measures designed to soften America’s hostile posture towards Cuba that has lasted for over 50 years.

From the Daily Caller:

“Two sources told TheDC that the development is due to the behind-the-scenes efforts of Republican Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Democratic New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez and Republican Florida Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart.”

The report goes on to say that Trump plans to officially announce the changes in a June speech in Miami.

Rubio has previously spoken about his optimism that Trump would return American policy to a pre Obama posture.

He said in an interview with El Nuevo Herald, “We’ve been walking through all these issues with the president and his team, figuring out the right steps to take and when.”

Rihanna Might Actually Pay For Your College

Notorious BadGirlRiRi has been up to some good lately.

Beginning in the 2016-2017 academic year the Grammy award winner will offer scholarships of up to $50,000 to college students through the Clara Lionel Foundation, an organization she started in 2012 in honor of her grandparents.

The organization’s goal is to “improve the quality of life for communities globally in areas of health, education, arts, and culture.”

Scholarships will be awarded on a “as-needed basis” to 50 citizens or natives of Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, or Rihanna’s own home of Barbados.

Recipients must be students who wish to further their education and have already been accepted at a four-year school in the United States. They must be considered freshman at these schools and be able to provide a birth certificate from one of the eligible countries.

Recipients of the scholarships can get an award between $5,000 and $50,000.

Rihanna spoke about her excitement for the project after the announcement on her instagram account.

“Higher education will help provide perspective, opportunities, and learning to a group of kids who really deserve it. I am thrilled to be able to do this.”

So if you’re willing to put in a little work, work, work, work, work, work, than Rihanna just might be willing to foot the bill. Application will be available for submission on June 10th, 2016.

Hey Raul Castro, Here’s A List Of Current Political Prisoners In Your Jails, Asshole

After being pressed by CNN reporter Jim Acosta on why Cuba won’t release its political prisoners, the island’s premier, Raul Castro got a bit testy.

Here’s how it all went down according to Business Insider:

“‘Did you ask if we had political prisoners?’ Castro asked back.

Acosta replied: ‘I wanted to know if you have Cuban political prisoners and why you don’t release them.’

Castro then got defensive.

‘Give me a list of the political prisoners and I will release them immediately,’ Castro said.”

But wait, it gets better.

“Just mention a list,” Castro said. What political prisoners? Give me a name or names or when, after this meeting is over, you can give me a list of political prisoners and if we have those political prisoners they will be released before tonight ends.”

Alright jerk-face, here’s that list you want.

There are literally 47 people on it- a pretty healthy amount of folks if you were to ask just about anyone.

The following list was compiled by the advocacy group Cuban American National Foundation. We have put the full list below:

Pope Urges Central American Countries To Help Cuban Migrants En Route To US

Pope Francis directed his prayers on Sunday to the thousands of Cuban migrants stuck in Central and South America who are attempting to reach the U.S. Thousands of those migrants spent their Christmas cramped in border camps in Costa Rica, many able-bodied men reduced to begging for alms while dreaming of getting work in the U.S.,… Read More

Pope Francis Arrives In Cuba

Update: 4:25 PM EST

Pope Francis has arrived in Havana, Cuba to kick off his multi-day trip to the island nation and the United States of America.

At around 4:03 PM EST, Francis stepped on Cuba soil and was greeted by Cuban President Raul Castro.

A military band welcomed Francis and a group of young Cuban children handed him flowers.

Castro spoke on the tarmac of Jose Marti International Airport about how Cuba was willing to work with the global community on climate change- an obvious olive branch to the Pontiff’s efforts on the issue.
